Two popular YouTube creators have been charged with criminal trespassing after disrupting a classroom at the University of Houston.
JiDon Adams, who goes by "JiDion" online, and Damilola Emanuel Onakoya, who goes by "Damii" online, entered a classroom at Farish Hall at the University of Houston's main campus Feb. 13, according to charging documents. The creators were reportedly accompanied by other unnamed individuals who were holding cameras and took seats in the classroom.
Onakoya entered the classroom carrying balloons, flowers, and a stuffed gray bear and announced, "who wants to be my Valentine? Where are all the girls?" the charging documents state. Onakoya then, "professed his love" to the professor for, "helping him cheat on tests." Then Adams walked over to the professor and began speaking to her, when Onakoya said "stop c---blocking."
The professor then reportedly told Onakoya and Adams to leave and that, "we can't have that language." She told police that she took the balloons, attempted to lead Onakoya and Adams out of the classroom, and threatened to call the University of Houston Police Department.
According to the charging documents, Adams, who didn't leave the classroom, would ask the professor to call security on a deaf student for, "throwing up gang signs." The professor reportedly told Adams that the deaf interpreter will sign "danger" to the deaf student when a non-normal event occurs.
Onakoya also re-entered the classroom and distributed flowers, the stuffed animal, and balloons to the students. The professor then stepped outside the classroom to call UHPD while Onakova and Adams refused to leave, according to the charging documents.
The stunt was uploaded to Youtube under the title "My Professor Rejected me! Ft. JiDion" and was uploaded by Onakoya. The video appears to have been taken down, but Adams has posted about the warrant on social media and appears to have taken a photograph in front of a University of Houston police station.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office confirmed on Tuesday that the charge is still active, despite Adams' picture.
The Chronicle reached out to Adams and Onakoya for comment but did not receive a response.
"The Harris County District Attorney’s Office, on behalf of the University of Houston Police Department, has issued an arrest warrant for Jidon Adams who has been charged with criminal trespass for disrupting a University of Houston class on Feb. 13, 2023. He is not a UH student. Such distractions negatively impact students’ learning experiences and can be very distressing for our campus community. Anyone who violates University policy or the law while on campus will be held accountable to the fullest extent possible" said a UH spokesperson.
On March 1, Diane Chase, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, sent a notice to the UH about classroom disruptions on campus. The notice indicated UH is creating a task force with the goal of creating strategies to address future classroom disruptions.
"Disruptions during large classes are on the rise at our University and at other institutions of higher education across the nation. In many cases, they appear to be social media pranks. We understand that such distractions negatively impact students’ learning experiences and can be very distressing for our campus community," the notice said.
This isn't the first time Adams has been in trouble with the law for his YouTube videos and is known for his viral antics. The 22-year-old has over six million subscribers on Youtube. Adams received a lifetime ban from Wimbledon , was arrested for trespassing in the Galleria , was thrown out of a Harvard classroom , and famously received a haircut during an NBA game .
